          Day 2/- Thursday 17th Oct.
          PAUL’S ATHENS
The best part of the day in the city visiting:
          The Acropolis -
Located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of sev-
eral ancient buildings of great architectural and historical significance, the most famous
being the Parthenon. There is little doubt that a Mycenaean Megaron Palace stood
upon the hill during the late Bronze Age although very little remains.
          Mars Hill (Areopagus)-
The term “Areopagus” also refers to the judicial body of aristocratic origin that
subsequently formed the higher court of modern Greece. It was on this hill that Paul
presented the Gospel to the cities leaders.
          Ancient Agora -
A walk through this bustling market place in Paul’s day.
In the 4th and 5th centuries, there was significant evidence of women being innkeepers
and merchants selling their products in the market of the Athenian agora. Some of the
products they sold included fruit, clothes, pottery, religious and luxury goods, perfume,
incense, purple dye, wreaths, and ribbons.
          Plakka Old City area -
With its village feel, of narrow cobblestone streets lined with tiny shops selling
jewellery, clothes, ceramics. cafe’s, and family-run tavernas.
